Friends of the Haliburton County Public Library
HISTORY

The Friends of Haliburton County Public Library was founded in 2001 and incorperated in 2004, beginning as an advocacy group to promote libraries and library services in the County. Our objective was to make the
public aware of the need for better library facilities, improved library collections and programming.
2004 - advocated for the implementation of the recommendations as defined in the Friends of the Haliburton County
Library Position Paper on the Golden Report
2004 - Wrote a formal letter of request to each Township Council asking them to consider the recommendations in our Position Paper
2005 - conducted a survey to determine how we could assist non-users to access the libraries on behalf
of the Haliburton County Board
2006 - sponsored the first Book Gala as a major fund raiser
2007-2008 - assisted the County Library Board in lobbying for new libraries in the County
2009 - assisted municipalities of Minden Hills and Dysart et al in the building of two new libraries in
Minden and Haliburton village, both opened in 2009
2009 - assisted the County Library Board in establishing a job description for the new County Librarian
2009 - donated monies to building funds of Minden Hills & Dysart et al
2009 - welcomed Bessie Sullivan as County Librarian
2009 - initiated book sales to increase fund raising
2010 - sponsored 1st Members Appreciation Event
2010 - revised Constitution and By-laws
2010 - sponsored children's programs in Wilberforce and Stanhope branches
We look foward to continuing to assist in developing collections, providing modern services and programming through
fundraising activities.
