Confidentiality:

The following has been taken directly from the Public Libraries Act (1984):

A person may, during ordinary business hours, inspect any records, books, accounts and documents in the possession or control of a Board's secretary.

Subsection (1) does not apply to information that:

  1. in the secretary's opinion, is of an intimate financial or personal nature; or,
  2. identifies an individual user of library services by name or makes him or her readily identifiable by other means.
Registration and circulation files are considered confidential, not to be released in whole or part to anyone without express permission of the County Library Board. This caveat is reinforced by the Freedom of Information Act which provides substantial penalties to staff as individuals.
